STEP 1 - Clean & Degrease Surface
Before applying ANY rust preventive coating or paint, you MUST remove all oily film or residue to ensure good adhesion. That's why you must clean metal surfaces with water-based POR-15® Cleaner Degreaser first. It cleans and degreases in one application without leaving residues, noxious fumes or flammable solvents.
No other cleaner works as fast or as well. It makes petroleum-based cleaners almost obsolete because it can be diluted with water to 4, 5, and even 10 times its volume while remaining even more potent than other cleaners.
POR-15® Cleaner Degreaser removes grease, oil, mildew, algae, musty odors, soap films and wax. Use it to clean canvas, vinyl, nylon, holding tanks, grease traps, auto parts and more.
STEP 2 - Neutralize Rust; Etch Metal
Now that you’ve degreased and cleaned your metal, use POR-15® Metal Prep to guarantee the best paint adhesion on ANY metal surface, including aluminum and shiny polished metal surfaces.
POR-15® Metal Prep etches metal, leaves a zinc phosphate coating, and creates the perfect anchor pattern for any POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating or Topcoat.
STEP 3 - Apply Rust Preventive Coating to Surface
Now that you have prepared your surface, apply 2 thin coats of POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating. You’ll get an unbelievably tough, hard finish that won’t
crack, chip, or peel. It’s so tough you can pound it with a hammer and not damage it! That’s REAL protection!
POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating is available in Semi-Gloss Black, Gloss Black, Gray, Siver, and Clear. You can purchase gallons or quarts to suit your project. Each gallon will cover approximately 250 sq. ft with 2 coats.
POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating is sensitive to UV light and must be topcoated when prolonged exposure to sunlight is possible. If your surface will be exposed to direct sunlight then you need to apply POR-15 Topcoat as a last step. Under exposure to sunlight and weather POR-15® Top Coat has exceptional long-term gloss and color retention.
POR-15 Topcoat comes in many colors including clear, gloss black, chassis black, gloss white, silver, gray, red oxide, safety yellow, safety blue, safety green, safety yellow, and safety orange. You can purchase gallons, quarts, or aerosol cans to suit your project. Each gallon will cover approximately 250 sq. ft with 2 coats, and each 15 oz. aerosol can covers approximately 50 sq. ft with 2 light coats.
